Achieving Sustainable Urban Transport: Decision-Makers’ Dialogue.
We live in a time of unprecedented urbanisation — the proportion of the world’s population living in cities has surpassed 50 per cent, and is well over 80 per cent in most International Transport Forum members. The quality and availability of transport systems are determining factors in the quality of life and sustainability of cities. Although cities differ in many ways, urban transport problems are largely shared by all, including managing growth and mitigating congestion, reducing environmental impacts, providing adequate access to all users, funding public transport, and facilitating different forms of transport, like cycling and walking, among others.
This session will bring together Ministers, Mayors and experts to discuss the transport challenges facing cities of different sizes.
